Your iPhone is Nasty, Clean it with a Coin. Do What?

The WipeCoin case is a specially designed iPhone 4/4S case with a built in cleaning disk that can be used to clean the gunk off your phone’s display. The coin stores in the lower right corner of the case, but when you need to use it, it slides out so that you can rub the [...]

Canon C300 takes to the sky, hopefully still under warranty

We're not sure what sending your $16,000 (plus lens) video camera into the sky does to its warranty, but here's hoping that the folks at Horizon AP don't have to find out the hard way. They've attached Canon's C300 to a remote controlled rotorcraft to grab the kind of shots that only multiple spinning blades can. Probably best to avoid trying this at home, unless you've got a couple extra Easyshares lying around.

[Thanks, Jack]

IE9 and Firefox 4 post top marks in Web browser power use comparison

Over on the Internet Explorer Blog, Microsoft has posted results from an extensive comparison of the top five Web browsers. The goal: to determine whether Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 4, Chrome 10, Safari 5, or Opera 11 is able to squeeze the most life out of your laptop's battery.

A baseline was determined with test systems sitting idle, and then browsers were pointed at about:blank, a news site, the HTML5 Galactic demo, and the IE9 fish tank demo. Perhaps unsurprisingly, IE9 came out on top -- though Firefox 4 was a very close second on nearly every test. As you can see, the other browsers didn't necessarily fare quite as well, with Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera all posting significantly worse scores. In Opera 11's case, a laptop battery would last over one hour more with Internet Explorer 9 installed.

But what we'd really like to know is where did Microsoft find the dilithium crystals required to run a Galactic Total Power Consumption test...

Celebrities React To Whitney Houston?s Passing

I am still in shock. I can’t believe that the amazingly talented Whitney Houston is gone. My heart breaks for her daughter Bobbi Christina, her family and close friends. What an unbelievable loss for the music community. There undoubtedly will be a cloud hanging over the Grammys tomorrow night. I can remember when her debut album came out back in 1985. I was in high school, and bought her record right away. Here she was, this gorgeous woman with an incredible voice. I cannot tell you how many times I listened to her album. There are so many of her songs that I’ll hear on the radio that bring back a flood of memories. I am just so saddened by her passing, a legend whose career spanned 30 years. She leaves us much too soon. She will always be remembered and will be missed. Houston’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown, who is also the father of her only child Bobbi Kristina, 18, is said to be absolutely devastated. Celebrities have come forward on Twitter and expressed their sadness and shock upon hearing of Whitney’s death. Mariah Carey: “Heartbroken and in tears over the shocking death of my friend, the incomparable Ms. Whitney [...]

Personal Activity Monitor tracks time you spend using desktop apps

personalactivitymonitor
Up until a couple of years ago, I used to turn to RescueTime to figure out how I spend my time online. Then it got too complex, and I stopped using it. Personal Activity Monitor is like a vastly dumbed-down version of RescueTime, and I mean that as a compliment. It's free and bare-bones -- all it does is track what applications you're using and for how long.

A big drawback at this point is that it doesn't integrate with Web browsers to help you analyze how you spend your time on the Web. Still, if your work doesn't require constant Web app use, knowing how long you've used a browser overall might be enough to help you manage your time.

This is far from the only application in this space -- alternatives such as Slife and Chrometa are full-featured and impressive -- but PAM is good option for those who want a nice, simple tracker.

Selena Gomez Replaces Miley Cyrus In Adam Sandler Vampire Flick

Animated 'Hotel Transylvania' set for September release.

It seems that the Disney girls have each other's backs. Miley Cyrus will no longer be able to voice a part in Adam Sandler's animated vampire flick, "Hotel Transylvania," and it seems that Selena Gomez has stepped up to the plate to fill in for her.

A rep for Sandler told E! News that the actress will play the part of Mavis, the vampire daughter of Dracula (Sandler). Dracula, who runs a resort of all the creepy folks in the world, gets worried when his teen daughter falls for a boy. E! reports that "Saturday Night Live" star Andy Samberg, singer and "The Voice" judge Cee Lo Green and Sandler's pal Kevin James also have sunk their teeth into roles in the film, expected to drop in September.

Back in November, an image of Mavis floating around showed the teen vamp with short black hair, sporting a little black dress with black-and-red striped tights. She rocks the look with red high-top sneakers.

Before she voices Mavis, Gomez will be on set for the much-more-mature "Spring Breakers," which follows a group of college girls who rob a restaurant to pay for their spring break. When they land in jail, a drug and arms dealer bails them out, and they quickly become entangled with him. "I'm really, really excited about it," Gomez said about the Harmony Korine-directed film.

"We have to say there's a lot to be excited about. It's a different character than I have ever played before," she added. "It's a different kind of vibe, I think, than people are used to seeing me in. What you're going to see is more raw, I think. It's going to be raw and more about acting."

Gomez will produce and most likely star in the big-screen adaptation of the Jandy Nelson novel "The Sky Is Everywhere." She's also rumored to be attached to a film called "Hot Mess."

As for Cyrus, she's got some big projects set for release this year. She's going to drop her college-set comedy "So Undercover" and the dramedy "LOL," co-starring Demi Moore and Ashley Greene.

Check out everything we've got on "Hotel Transylvania."
