Sony redesigns PlayStation Home, makes it the game outside the game

Sony updated PlayStation Home in the spring of this year, and gave its virtual world multiplayer support and better graphics. Evidently that update wasn't quite what Sony wanted, so the company will roll out a complete redesign of the community this autumn to make it easier for folks to connect with desired content. The revamped Home lets users find games by exploring several themed districts (Action, Adventure, Sportswalk and Pier Park) with their digital doppelgängers. Sony's saying the changes will make PlayStation Home itself a game, so maybe it's time for Second Life to start shaking in its boots. Denizens of Sony's digital world can get more details in the PR below.

Los Angeles

I'm here! I'm here! And I saw my first gang-banger get arrested yesterday so I feel like a total Angeleno.

I'm getting ready to go to the gym (again, like a total Angeleno!) so I will update later about my run-ins with Alexander Skarsgard, Pauly Shore, and Jeremy or Jason London (I'm not sure which one it was and seeing if I could force him to do drugs to find out seemed unfair. Besides, as it turned out, he was telling the truth?)

Anyhoo, I've got a lot to tell you about gardening! (Did you know if you get dirt wet it turns into mud? Yuck.)

And bumpers! (They don't bump off anything... they go, "Scraaaaaaaatch!")

And there's probably more but, again, I have to go because I have to get to the gym!

Simon Cowell: "I Was Bored" with 'American Idol'

Simon Cowell: "I Was Bored" with 'American Idol'

If you thought Simon Cowell looked like he barely made it through his last season as American Idol judge, you were right. As the sharp-tongued Brit sat on the panel for the show's ninth season, we couldn't even count how many eye-rolls he gave the aspiring contestants. Now, Cowell is admitting that his final days as Idol's "mean judge" were just not doing it for him.

"I was bored," he says in the new issue of GQ. "But at the same time I had a deal with Fox, and you've got to do what you've been paid to do."

Just how bored was he?

"There were times I used to wake up and I knew it was an audition day, and it was the same feelings I used to get Sunday nights at school," Cowell said. "I used to wake up and think, I just wish I could do what I used to do—put a cup of tea on my head and pretend I'd got a fever."

We all know what that's like -- and it's one of the main reasons Cowell bolted from the show the minute his contract was up. Now he's bringing the much-anticipated X Factor over to America from his homeland.

"The first two or three years on Idol, I had a blast," he said. "And then, as it got more and more successful, I didn't want to do it anymore. I just felt I was there being paid to do a role, and after a while that's not very satisfying. So it was hard work the last couple of years. I wanted to do this."

This is what we always loved about Simon -- he's honest. He tells the truth, even if it's hard to hear sometimes. And, no doubt, it's a huge part of why he's so successful.

And speaking of success, Cowell makes no apologies for all the cash he's raked in over the years. But he does plan to share the wealth after his time on earth is up. When asked what he plans to do with all of his money, he said, "Leave the whole lot to charity...You can enjoy it while you've got it, and then it's gone to good causes afterwards."

He continued, "One of the good things about making money is that you can help other people. It feels good when you do it. I like doing it. But the idea that the whole lot just gets moved to another person, that's ridiculous. I don't think it's good for people."

Graft Concepts' fancy Leverage iPhone case is probably fancier than your fancy case (video)

So you spent all of that money on an iPhone 4 -- do you really want to cover it up with some discount protection? Graft Concepts' new case is nearly as snazzy as the handset it was designed to protect. The Leverage is made out of polycarbonate with a matte finish and features a metal latch that secures it to the handset. The case is up for sale now, at a fittingly pricey $60. You can pick up additional backplates for $7 a piece.

White HTC EVO 3D gets exclusive RadioShack bow on September 9th

If Wall-E's lady friend, Eve, and Spielberg's E.T. were to come together in engineering matrimony, we're pretty sure this white EVO 3D would be the resulting offspring. This "rare and beautiful" unicorn from HTC's beastly, dual-core Android herd hails from the Hesse-led network, and will be available as a RadioShack exclusive on September 9th. The electronics retailer dipped more than just its toes into our 21st century ways (or more likely hired a new intern), getting the message out via its Twitter account, and snapping an Instagram shot of the bleached handset. Pricing for the phone has yet to be announced, but we'd be surprised if this gets a premium over its $199 on-contract twin.
