Ryan Gosling is suddenly wishing he had a secret identity. Ever since a video of Gosling breaking up a New York City street fight hit the Internet, the Drive actor has been called a hero everywhere he goes. But in a new video interview with MTV, he says he's just "embarrassed" by the whole situation. Watch below!
"I'm embarrassed... I think the guy really was stealing that other guy's painting, so I should have just kept my nose out of it," says Gosling of the dispute, which was caught on camera by a bystander. (The video shows a street vendor chasing down and punching a man holding a painting.)
"It was sad, because it turns out that I said to the guy, 'Why are you doing this?' He said, 'Well, he tried to steal my painting,'" Gosling recalls. "I said, 'How do you know?' and he said, 'Well, he comes here every day and looks at my paintings,' which means the guy was a fan, and so he wanted the painting so bad he had to steal it because he couldn't afford it."
"So he finally steals the painting, and then he's getting his ass kicked by his hero, and then the guy from The Notebook shows up and makes it weirder," Gosling concludes with a sigh. "Nobody wins."
Gosling says that testosterone is partly to blame for his actions, since he was "all stretched out" and "warmed up" since he had just came from the "gymnasium" (yep, that's what he calls the gym). Incidentally, that's also his excuse for the odd tank-top-and-capris outfit he was sporting when he broke up the fight.
"I'm sorry. I just came from the gym," he says in a separate interview with E!. "I don't wear cool stuff to the gym. Basically I get given free stuff. And that was one of them. I didn't know it was going to be everywhere. I would have worn a different outfit."
Is it weird that we find Gosling's humility even hotter than his heroic act? That guy can make anything seem sexy -- even a striped tank top.
