Michelle Williams in 'My Week with Marilyn' Trailer

Michelle Williams in 'My Week with Marilyn' Trailer

Channeling Marilyn Monroe is no easy task, although plenty of contemporary stars have tried. (Remember Lindsay Lohan's naked-Marilyn photo shoot?) Well, now it's Michelle Williams' turn -- and in the new trailer for My Week With Marilyn, we can see that her portrayal of the iconic actress is actually jaw-droppingly good.

Watch below!

The film, which comes out on Nov. 4, is based on the incredible true story of Colin Clark (played by Eddie Redmayne), who met Monroe in 1956 while working as a production assistant on the London set of The Prince and the Showgirl. Monroe was at the height of her fame, addicted to pills, newly married to playwright Arthur Miller (Dougray Scott), and at odds with her costar Sir Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branaugh). Overwhelmed and lonely, Monroe befriended Clark and even escaped with him to the English countryside for a brief vacation (the "week" of the movie's title). While their relationship was platonic, Clark fell in love with the actress and went on to write two books about their time together.

Even though this is Clark's story, the movie clearly belongs to Michelle Williams, 34, as Marilyn. Williams, an Oscar nominee for Brokeback Mountain and Blue Valentine, won the role over stiff competition (including the more bombshell-esque Scarlett Johansson). Even though she's no glamour girl, Williams is an incredible actress who never seems like she's "acting." The role of Marilyn is essentially two roles -- the onscreen persona of Marilyn, and the authentic Norma Jean -- and it's clear from the trailer that Williams has nailed them both. There's definitely another Oscar nomination in her future, and perhaps the third time's the charm!

Ad-supported Kindle 4 has built-in $30 "upgrade", gets rid of embedded special offers

Was it too cheap? Well, here's some great news for fourth-generation Kindle users already tiring of its embedded ads looking cheap alongside their Vertu phones. You can now pay Amazon the requisite fee and unsubscribe from built-in advertising and offers. Visit the Manage your Kindle webpage and you can edit your subscriptions for the newest entry-level e-reader. There seems to be no option, however, to do the reverse just yet. Would Amazon hand over $30 to push those special offers into our currently ad-free Kindle?

Opera 11.10 includes improved power saving features

opera 11.10 battery power
Just recently, the Opera 11.10 release candidate was made available for download. It brought a handful of important feature additions -- like HTML5 File API support and IMAP enhancements -- and loads of bugfixes. Nestled in amongst the other details in the Opera team's announcement is one more interesting tidbit: Opera 11.10 offers improved battery optimizations.

The timing here is certainly interesting, what with Microsoft's recent report on how much power the top five Web browsers consume. In its findings, Opera 11 was fairly low in the standings. While we've not seen any new benchmarks yet, we're curious to know whether the Opera 11.10 RC offers any significant gains.

If you're running Opera 11.10 on a laptop, let us know if you're seeing an improvement in your battery life while browsing!

HTC's unaudited Q3 results keep the revenue train a-rollin'

HTC clearly couldn't wait for a pesky audit to tell let the world about its continued financial successes. The Taiwanese handset maker posted unaudited consolidated results for the third quarter -- and, not surprisingly, things are (continuing) to look good for the company. HTC marked a 79.07-percent growth over this time last year, with NT$135,821 million ($4.4 billion) total revenue. And according to HTC, the company's net income post-taxes was NT$18,638 million ($612 million) for the quarter. We'll update the results when we get something a bit more official.

inDinero Now Lets Small Businesses Track Their Financial Transactions And Receipts On One Platform

indinero_logoHow many 21-year-old serial entrepreneurs do you know? Probably not many, but now you'll know one. Jess Mah launched her first startup at age 13, her second in high school, and is now working on her third, which just may be, as they say, the charm. For those unfamiliar, Mah's third startup is called inDinero, which offers software to help small businesses track and manage their finances in realtime. Unsurprisingly, the startup has been tagged the "Mint for small business". Today, inDinero is adding to its functionality by launching a full-service feature for owners looking to track both financial transactions and business receipts in one place, so that instead of wondering what you bought at Walmart or Amazon last month, you can see the full receipt next to every single transaction.

Intellectual Ventures takes aim at Motorola over alleged patent infringement

When Nathan Mhyrvold's Intellectual Ventures firm isn't striking licensing deals with technology companies, it's usually suing them, and you can now add one more big name to that latter group. This time it's Motorola, which IV says it has been in discussions with for "some time," but which it has ultimately been unable to come to an agreement with on a license. A total of six patents covering a fairly wide variety of functions are included in the suit, which was filed in a Delaware federal court, although that's just a small fraction of the more than 35,000 total intellectual property assets owned by the company. For its part, Motorola is remaining mum on the matter, while IV said in a statement that while its "goal continues to be to provide companies with access to our portfolio through licensing and sales," it will "not tolerate ongoing infringement of our patents to the detriment of our current customers and our business."

Rihanna?s Hot, New Armani Ad

She?s always been a bit of a wild child, and Rihanna shows off her sex appeal in a new commercial for Emporio Armani and Armani Jeans.

The ?Disturbia? songstress is featured in the black-and-white clip, initially wearing a designer dress while she sits in the back of a chauffeured car.

From there, a man pulls up, drops off a duffel bag, and then drives off in a hurry. A bodyguard bring the bag to Ri-Ri who begins to strip off her clothes.

Rihanna pulls a pair of jeans and a black leather jacket from the bag, slides them on, and then hops out of the car in her short blonde wig. It?s all part of the Fall 2011 campaign.

On Tuesday, Justin Bieber had this message for fans eagerly awaiting some new music from the teen star: "oh yeah ... and i think LESS THAN A MONTH ... I'm gonna give you some #newmusic." Bieber is busy in the studio locking down features for his forthcoming Christmas album.

With rumored collaborations with Sean Kingston and Taylor Swift, as well as a confirmed track, "Falalalala," with Boyz II Men, Bieber is hustling to get the album done.

"He thought we'd be perfect for it," Boyz II Men's Shawn Stockman said of their work with the star. "And we went in and locked in."

On Wednesday, Bieber not only confirmed another guest for the album, the Band Perry, but also teased a secret one. "@thebandperry heard the final version of our song for the Christmas album!! Love it. glad to have you!" he wrote, before going back and forth with his manager, Scooter Braun, about that other feature.

"Wow. Just got an #epic phone call regarding @justinbieber xmas album. 1 of the most #Legendary performers ever is joining the album!!" Braun tweeted.

Bieber responded, "@scooterbraun cant believe it ... completely #HONORED. I think people are going to be shocked. I was. #christmas." In addition to all the feature updates, Bieber revealed, "working hard on this #SOMEDAY shoot. they are playing my first single from the christmas album. what is the name of it again .... hmmmm ....."

Bieber apparently also has something big in store for fans this week. Braun only had this to say about it: "kinda hyped right now .... @justinbieber has something pretty wild in store for this week. #remix."
