iHome NB639 Fitness Evolved Headphones Review

Over the last six months or so, I’ve been in training for an upcoming Tough Mudder event.  I’ve had to bring myself from literal couch potato to gym rat capable of living through a 12 mile run through mud, water, fire, and electricity.  In doing so, I’ve learned the importance of keeping track of my [...]

iOS 5: Excellent, Awesome and Somewhat Confusing

After learning that it would cost me $449 to upgrade from my iPhone 4 to an iPhone 4S, I pushed the pause button on those plans and decided to see how iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 shakes out first. After all, it's not as if I don't appreciate my iPhone 4. It's a great phone, quite serviceable, and now, with iOS 5, it's better than it was just a few days ago.

Ask Engadget: what's the best dual-SIM phone on the market?

We know you've got questions, and if you're brave enough to ask the world for answers, here's the outlet to do so. This week's Ask Engadget inquiry is coming to us from Damian, who just ain't satisfied with only one SIM in his handset. If you're looking to send in an inquiry of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.

"I've looked and given up, so I'm chiming to the oracle. What is the best dual-SIM phone?"

We're going to need some serious input from our international readers on this one. Dual-SIM handsets just aren't "a thing" in America, and even finding one is a bit of a chore. But for those elsewhere, what's your preferred device for toting around SIMs from two nations?

Michael Jackson Phone Recording: 'I Had No Childhood'

Among other testimony, a much-hyped slurred phone recording is played in full.

After bringing a succession of Dr. Conrad Murray's girlfriends to the witness stand, on Wednesday (October 5), prosecutors in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson's personal physician focused on the kinds and amounts of drugs Murray ordered in the months leading up to the pop star's death at age 50 on June 25, 2009.

The most anticipated moment of the day was the promise of the full recording of a slurred-sounding Jackson recorded on Murray's phone in the weeks before the "Thriller" singer's death. Bits of the tape were played during the prosecution's opening statements.

Among the testimony Wednesday:

» In the much-hyped phone recording, Jackson talks to Murray about his grand plans for the This Is It shows, including raising enough money to start the Michael Jackson Children's Hospital. "I love them because I didn't have a childhood," he says of why kids are his primary cause. "I had no childhood. I feel their pain. I feel their hurt." When Jackson goes silent for 13 seconds, Murray asks, "Are you OK?" Jackson's response: "I am asleep."

» Medical-supply rep Sally Hirschberg testified that Murray put in drug orders that were a bit unusual for a cardiology clinic, including ones for Lidocaine and IV bags. The former is typically used as a local anesthetic to relieve skin irritation from the injection of anesthetics such as propofol, the surgical anesthetic Murray administered to Jackson on the night of his death.

» Hirschberg also said she refused to send supplies to a private address Murray provided in California because of company policy, sending them instead to the doctor's Las Vegas office. The day after Jackson's death, Hirschberg said she got a call from Murray's office asking her to cancel an order for medical supplies.

» DEA computer forensics examiner Stephen Marx discussed emails on Murray's phone containing medical information about a patient named "Omar Arnold," which is reportedly one of the aliases Jackson used to obtain prescription medicine.

» Investigator Elissa Fleak from the L.A. County Coroner's office testified that when she inspected Jackson's bedroom the day he died, she found a variety of prescription pills at his bedside, including heavy sedatives Diazepam, Lorazepam and Temazepam, as well as a blue bag full of propofol vials, the same bag security guard Alberto Alvarez mentioned during his testimony.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to the charge of involuntary manslaughter. He faces four years in prison and the loss of his medical license.

Jetbus is a retro-tastic physics game, with a bus

jetbus
Once upon a time, there used to be a DOS game with a caveman and a human powered helicopter. The caveman would shuttle around the screen, madly trying to get customers to where they wanted to go.

Jetbus is not that game, but it's obviously inspired by it. You're driving a yellow school bus which has jets. I guess the jet engine takes quite a bit of space inside the bus, because you can only pick up one person at a time.

There are several doors on the screen, each with its own number. As you pick up a person, the status bar at the bottom of the screen shows you which number door you have to take them to.

You must fly your bus carefully, because if it gets bumped around too much, you lose. You earn money on each level, and can visit the garage to buy better jets and damping, power-ups, or even a whole new vehicle.

So while this game isn't made as well as the original that inspired it, it does provide a few minutes of fun. And now, which one of you guys remembers the original and feels like pointing to it in the comments?

Usher Says New 'Rev Pop' Project Is A 'Movement'

Singer teases his new project by pointing to past hits like 'Yeah!' and 'OMG.'

With the success of songs like "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love," "Hot Tottie" and "OMG," Usher had himself a fairly massive 2010. But rather than rest on his laurels, he's looking to build on his big year, not with an album, but with a "movement."

It's something he's calling "Rev Pop" — or, simply, "Rev" — and though he's already teased his idea in a video with David Guetta (Akon is also involved), he has yet to speak in full about it. So when MTV News caught up with Ush before the 53rd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles at the (Belvedere) RED launch party, we asked him about his next musical endeavor. And though he didn't reveal much, he did let it be known that "Rev" isn't exactly something new. In fact, he's been doing it for a while now.

"I'll give it to you this way: At a later date, I'll tell you more about Rev Pop, but if I were to give you a flash: I've done it before, I did it with 'Yeah!' " he said, "taking a cultural experience, and also worldwide recognition of a feeling, and putting the soul in the middle of it. Not allowing it to shift heavily to R&B genre, or pop. I did it again with 'OMG,' once again putting the soul in the middle of it, which was an electric-pop experience, with the soul.

"It's bringing those elements together to tell a story, that was born here," he said, gesturing toward his heart, "And that's what Rev Pop is. There's more, I mean, I could really elaborate, but that's just what I'm going to tell you right now. 'Rev' is what it's called ... the movement is called Rev."

Usher wouldn't say just when his fans would be getting their first taste of Rev, but whenever they do, it sounds like they're going to be impressed ... if not a little shocked.

"Stay alive," he smiled, "Because you're definitely going to be in for a surprise."

Let it Slide is an engaging, difficult puzzle game

letitslide
I have a thing for physics games, and I've been known to post the occasional platformer or action game here and there. But Let it Slide is one of the brainiest games I've posted to date.

The idea is very simple, and far from original: You get a board with pieces arranged in a particular pattern; you have to slide those around until you get the special piece into its target location.

It's not even about finding out where the target location is - you can just hover over "dim tiles" and instantly see where you're supposed to bring the special piece. But getting it there is a whole different story.

There are five tutorial levels, which I strongly recommend you do. Then there are twenty "beginner" levels, but that's really a misnomer. If those are the beginner levels, I don't want to know what the intermediate and advanced levels look like!

Every time you finish a level you get a score based on how many clicks it took you - each level has a "par" (the minimum number of clicks it could be completed in), and your performance is compared to that gold standard. Because it's such a brainy game, getting it right is quite satisfying. I was downright proud of myself when I managed to finish a few levels. All in all, quite recommended, especially if you've got a few minutes of quiet. It might actually help you focus better later on.

Kate Hudson Goes Brunette for Movie Role

Kate Hudson Goes Brunette for Movie Role

Kate Hudson is taking on a new hue. The 32-year-old actress has been photographed on the New York City set of her upcoming thriller, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, sporting a brand-new brunette hairdo!

Though it's most likely a wig, the dark brown color was a starling but welcome change from Hudson's usual blond hair. Judging by her costume, Hudson's character in the film might be a bit frumpy, but she's totally rocking the new hair style.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist, the adaptation of Mohsin Hamid's hit book of the same name, is being directed by Mira Nair and is scheduled to hit theaters in 2013. Hudson was spotted shooting scenes with Riz Ahmed, who plays the movie's main character Changez, a man whose life is inexorably changed by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Hudson plays a woman with whom Changez has a love affair; Liev Schreiber and Kiefer Sutherland round out the cast.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist is Hudson's first movie since she and her fiancé, 32-year-old Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, welcomed their son Bingham in July. Hudson also has a 7-year-old son named Ryder with her ex-husband, Black Crowes lead singer Chris Robinson.
